Nissan Design America - Farmington Hills, MI
Opened in 2005 on the grounds of Nissan Technical Center, NDA-Farmington Hills is one of the newest chapters in Nissan's expanding global design footprint. Sharing the core design values and capabilities of its sister studio in San Diego, it also maintains a character reflective of its culture: that is, its close relationship to Nissan engineers and its location in the automotive hub of Detroit. The 50,912 square-foot facility is a striking architectural statement that embodies the intertwining of design and engineering. Perhaps its most iconic feature is The Egg, an outdoor viewing courtyard surrounded by unique cantilevered walls wrapped in stainless steel mesh. More than 30 full-time employees here collaborate with Nissan studios globally to execute full-scale production design and exploratory concepts, with real-world feasibility always the most important goal.
