IMPORTANT FAQS REGARDING 2G CELLULAR NETWORK CHANGES AND IMPACT TO ACCESS TO NISSANCONNECT EV[*]
Like all devices, including vehicles, equipped to connect to a cellular network on the 2G access band, Nissan LEAF models with a 2G telematics control unit (TCU) will be unable to use or receive services from that device after 12/31/16. Without an upgrade to the TCU (and enrollment), NissanConnect EV features will not be available after that date and may be affected prior to that date depending upon AT&T’s proprietary decisions regarding shutting down their 2G network coverage.
2G means “Second Generation” and refers to digital cellular telephone technology; it is the name of a specific network that mobile telephone equipment uses to provide connectivity.
a. Nissan will contact affected customers directly; customers can contact Nissan LEAF Owner
Services at 1-877-664-2738 to verify if your vehicle is impacted. If you have a vehicle that has
navigation and is one of the model years listed below, your vehicle has a 2G TCU.
b. The following models are equipped with 2G TCUs:
i. Nissan LEAF: All model years 2011-2015 (SV & SL trims only),
• Model 2016 LEAF is not impacted
Nissan will communicate with affected customers with additional information regarding options for upgrading the TCU hardware in their vehicles once the hardware is readily available.
Pricing of the replacement TCU is not yet available, however Nissan plans to communicate the options for equipment upgrades for affected customers subscribed or wanting to subscribe to the NissanConnect EV telematics program.
a. Parts availability, pricing and other details are in the process of being finalized and Nissan expects to begin providing additional information to affected customers beginning in late summer 2016.
b. Nissan is planning to offer support to all affected Nissan LEAF customers with a 2G equipped vehicle who are using NissanConnect EV.
Customers with MY2011-14 model year LEAF vehicles will be asked to contribute to the cost of the hardware upgrade.
For customers with MY 2015 vehicles, who choose to enroll and use or are using NissanConnect EV, Nissan plans to pay for the cost of parts and labor to upgrade the TCU.
AT&T will suspend new enrollments on the 2G cellular network after June 30, 2016. If a Nissan LEAF with 2G-compatible equipment is purchased prior to July 1, 2016, the owner should enroll in NissanConnect EV on or before June 30, 2016 to help ensure enrollment is able to be processed.
Once the AT&T 2G cellular network is discontinued, no 2G-compatible TCU will be able to access the NissanConnect EV telematics program features, including Remote State of Charge and Climate Control.
The new TCU hardware will be designed to connect to the current AT&T 3G cellular network.
Nissan has studied how to integrate newer technology into your vehicle and developed solutions aimed at delivering a hardware upgrade option with the least inconvenience to customers. The 3G network is supported throughout the U.S. by AT&T and is expected to continue for years to come, however, Nissan has no control over availability of any cellular network.
Nissan has learned that some customers may have received notification about the change in AT&T's cellular network in error. Only vehicles equipped with a Telematics Control Unit (TCU) designed to be compatible with the 2G cellular network supporting the NissanConnect EV program are impacted by this change. If you have a vehicle that has navigation and is one of the model years listed below, your vehicle has a 2G TCU. Customers can contact Nissan LEAF Owner Services at 1-877-664-2738 to verify if your vehicle is impacted.
The following Nissan LEAF models are equipped with 2G TCUs:
*Nissan LEAF: All model years 2011-2015 (SV & SL trims only)
This is a voluntary action. Nissan plans to help support those clients interested in continuing the use of NissanConnect EV telematics program.
No customer is required to upgrade the TCU.
As such, there would be no additional charge if the lessee elects not to upgrade the hardware.
There are no current plans to provide a courtesy vehicle.
On September 29, 2015, we rebranded CARWINGS to NissanConnect EV. NissanConnect EV replaced the CARWINGS name not only on the smartphone app, but on all communications regarding LEAF telematics. However, for the 2016 LEAF, the telematics icon on the vehicles navigation screen will read NissanConnect Services. Your LEAF is equipped with NissanConnect EV features, which are unique from the NissanConnect Services program.
The vehicles affected by discontinuation of the 2G cellular network are vehicles equipped with TCUs designed to connect to the 2G cellular network. The TCUs are working as designed. Once the 2G cellular network is discontinued on 12/31/16, an upgraded TCU and enrollment are required to access the NissanConnect EV service. (Functionality of service depends on availability of compatible cellular network. Compatible cellular network availability and connectivity not available in all areas at all times.)

For all features of Apple CarPlay to operate correctly, it is necessary to have a compatible iPhone, a cellular connection and a data plan. Some features will work without a data connection.
Functionality of Apple CarPlay may decrease or be lost if there are changes to operating systems, hardware, software or other technologies central to supporting the system that are outside of NISSAN's control. Changing government regulations may also affect operation of Apple CarPlay.
When Apple CarPlay is operating, system performance is affected by the strength of the cellular connection or performance of the phone itself. If performance of the system decreases:
