Nissan LEAF Q&A
ARE THERE ANY INCENTIVES FOR DRIVING AN ELECTRIC CAR?
YES! THE INCENTIVES AND LOW LEASE RATE MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO DRIVE THE LEAF.
We are normal people with normal jobs who have never spent money on “fancy” cars. But, we really wanted to drive electric, and with about 12k in incentives, low lease rate (we pay $236/month which includes the scratch and dent warranty) and free charger install, we were able to do it[*]. We’re so glad and are never going back!
WE RECEIVED THE FEDERAL $7,500 TAX CREDIT
as well as $2,500 from the state of California.
WE GOT THE $7,500 TAX INCENTIVE.
The city then gave us a rebate on the charger and also a $250 tax incentive for buying a non ICE vehicle.
WE PURCHASED AND GOT BACK ABOUT $3,500 FEDERAL
and the 10% Illinois EPA rebate off the cars purchase price.
$5,000 REBATE FROM CA AND $7,500 FEDERAL TAX CREDIT.
Also 30% federal tax credit for EVSE install.

$7,500 AND $5,500 ADDED TO MY TAX RETURN BECAUSE OF THE EV!
That was a nice surprise, because now we actually saved thousands. We are driving a free car!
SINCE I LEASE THE VEHICLE, THE $7,500 FEDERAL TAX CREDIT WENT TO NMAC.
I did apply for the $5,000 Georgia State Income Tax credit and have used about $1,500 of the credit each year to reduce my state tax liability to zero. I have five years to receive the entire $5,000 tax credit from the State of Georgia.

$7,500.00 FROM THE FED AND $2,500.00 FROM TENNESSEE.
The good folks at Ecotality paid for my charger!
SINCE I AM LEASING, THE DEALERSHIP SUBTRACTED THE $7,500, AND ANOTHER $6,000 FOR THE SALE.
That is what made it affordable for me. It was just a pipe dream before.
$7,500 FEDERAL WENT TO NMAC AS IT WAS A LEASE.
I got the Ecotality Blink L2 unit nearly free plus an extra kickback for being a DC fast charge car in the Ecotality program.
THE $7,500 WAS FIGURED INTO MY LEASE.
I could've taken advantage of the state rebate if I choose to purchase the LEAF. I get a discount on registration which saves around $84/year.
