Nissan LEAF Q&A
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO MAINTAIN THE NISSAN LEAF?
ZERO MAINTENANCE SO FAR.
I spent more money on changing the oil in my other car than I spent total on the LEAF, including charging.
WE HAVE SPENT ZERO ON MAINTENANCE IN TWO YEARS OF OWNERSHIP.
WE WERE SPENDING ABOUT $200 A MONTH ON GAS IN OUR PRIUS.
The LEAF not only saves us from high gas prices, but more so by having almost no maintenance. And the little that is required, is easily done in my garage.
PRIOR TO THE LEAF I WAS DRIVING A 1996 SATURN.
When you combined the repair costs, maintenance costs and fuel, it cost about the same to own the Saturn as it does to lease a LEAF. If I'd had a car I was making payments on, there would be no comparison at all. LEAF is much cheaper.
I DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR OIL AND FILTER CHANGES,
head gaskets, timing belts, fuel pumps and fuel sensors. When I paid $750 for 2 new fuel sensors I decided it was time to go electric.
IT'S NOT AS OBVIOUS OR GLAMOROUS BUT NOT NEEDING OIL, ANTIFREEZE, FUEL INJECTION CLEANING, ETC.
or having to repair/replace those components or clean leaking fluids or take the time to have the maintenance/repair performed, or worry about being ripped off...is HUGE. I'd personally equate it about $500-$1000/yr savings.
