Nissan LEAF Q&A
WHAT IS THE LONGEST TRIP YOU’VE EVER TAKEN IN YOUR NISSAN LEAF?
WE TOOK OUR LEAF UP A MOUNTAIN.
It was about 80 miles to get up there. Since it was all freeway and the last part was up a steep mountain we had to stop to charge. We had a picnic in a park while we charged for a few hours. It was a fun trip and certainly doable with the LEAF.
YESTERDAY, I HAD A TOTAL OF 90 MILES TO DRIVE.
40 miles had to be at 55mph. Came home, trickle charge for four hours, then finished all my driving...gas free!
HAD SOME FUN TESTING OUR NEW LEAF IN MOUNTAIN CLIMBING.
We put on our bike rack and bikes and drove 11 miles up a mountain, about a 1500' climb. Started with 67 miles available and had 34 available after the 11-mile climb. But after a bike ride and a wood-fired pizza we drove down and gained 16 miles back generated from braking. Ended up only "using" 17 miles for a 22-mile drive up and down a mountain.
JUST THIS MONTH WE WENT CAMPING WITH OUR LEAF WITH FRIENDS INSTEAD OF TAKING THEIR SUBARU WAGON.
350 miles round trip to visit Detroit Lake, OR using (currently free) a fast charger along the way. Got to share the EV grin with two more potential converts. Driving an EV in the wilderness is awesome, by the way.
EV Term The irrepressible expression that comes over your face when you’re driving the LEAF®. Part wonder, part pride, and all happiness, an EV grin is impossible to hide and best when shared.
MY LONGEST TRIP WAS ABOUT 130 MILES,
and that was done with L2 chargers.
IT'S FUN TO TRY AND PLAN LONG TRIPS.
I spend time calculating range, distance to charge stations, backup charge stations. Use PlugShare.
FARTHEST ON MULTI-DAY TRIP WOULD BE 220 MILES,
but that was over 5 days and 2 different camp sites and the 220 miles does include cruising around town, various runs to store, etc...Longest one day trip was 160 miles, and had 2 quick charges and a 5 hour stint on a 240 volt charge.
676 MILES ROUND TRIP FROM EVERETT, WASHINGTON TO EUGENE, OREGON
using the West Coast Green Highway network of fast chargers.
West Coast Green Highway
EV Term The West Coast Green Highway spans 1,300 miles of the Pacific Northwest along Interstate 5 (I-5). With public Level 2 and DC Fast Chargers every 25-50 miles, you can conveniently charge your LEAF® while taking a quick break to stretch your legs.
I DROVE FROM GRANITE FALLS TO DURHAM, NC. THAT'S 160 MILES.
I stopped in Winston-Salem to charge, have lunch and some coffee, and then drove the rest of the way. The next day I drove the whole thing in reverse.
I DROVE FROM SANTA MONICA TO BIG BEAR AND BACK IN THE SAME DAY.
Some trickle charge at a cabin and two quick charger fill-ups to 100% helped with this trip.
200 MILE ROUND TRIP WITH TWO QUICK CHARGES.
I HAVE DRIVEN FROM KNOXVILLE TO CHATTANOOGA.
Thank God for Cracker Barrel and their DC Fast Chargers otherwise I would not have attempted. Obviously you must plan ahead.
Direct Current Fast Chargers
EV Term Also known as fast chargers, Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFC) deliver a full charge in less than thirty minutes. They’re the fastest EV chargers around, and they’ll charge your LEAF® in about the time it takes to enjoy a great cup of coffee.
I'VE DONE 300 MILES IN A DAY SEVERAL TIMES.
It requires 2-3 quick charges each way with L2 in the middle (at the destination).
"WHAT IF YOU WANT TO GO TO VEGAS?"
like driving there is the only option. "I fly to Vegas! Even when I had a gas car!"
