Nissan LEAF Q&A
HAVE YOU SAVED MONEY DRIVING YOUR NISSAN LEAF?
I WAS PAYING $250 A MONTH IN GAS, NOW IT'S $0.
COSTS ME < $.02 PER MILE TO DRIVE THE LEAF.
I have absolutely no idea what a gallon of gas costs!
I WAS PAYING $320/MONTH FOR GAS IN MY EXPLORER.
The lease for my LEAF is only $299. My explorer has 138,000 miles. It now has 138,200 miles and I have had my LEAF for 4 months. I am adding many more years to the life of my Explorer. I am also an electrician and I have wanted a LEAF since seeing one back in 2011. Best car I have ever driven. Absolutely love it!
I HAVE SAVED OVER $9,000 DRIVING MY LEAF COMPARED TO MY PREVIOUS CAR THAT GOT 30 MILES TO THE GALLON.
And I have not had to burn 3,000 gallons of gasoline.
WE WERE SPENDING ABOUT 200 A MONTH ON GAS IN OUR PRIUS.
The LEAF not only saves us from high gas prices, but there is also almost no maintenance.
NO OIL CHANGES, TIMING BELTS, HARDLY ANY BRAKE WEAR, AND OF COURSE NO GAS!
Rotate the tires, that's about it! The lease payment is equal to what our replaced vehicle was costing in regular fuel and maintenance, but it's under warranty and much nicer to drive being an EV.
MY LEASE PRETTY MUCH PAYS FOR ITSELF WITH THE SAVINGS ON FUEL.
We do a lot of 10-15 mile trips that just kill any ICE vehicle on MPG because of all the starting/stopping. We utilize a pay-per-hour electricity plan so we charge off peak. The cost to charge is minimal for us. The cost to commute to work has dropped from around $8 to around $.60 a day. I don't have to worry about oil changes and disposing of the oil.
Internal Combustion Engine
A vehicle with an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) that runs on gasoline.
So much that it pays for the car payment and most of the insurance. And my solar panels pay for the "fuel."
A LOT LESS ON GAS, A TON LESS ON MAINTENANCE, NO OIL CHANGES.
MY LEAF HAS ONLY COST ME AROUND $20 IN ELECTRICITY PER MONTH
& there are hardly any maintenance fees—no oil, no filters, no spark plugs, etc.
I PAY HALF OF WHAT I USED TO IN GAS AND TRAVEL DOUBLE THE MILES IN A MONTH
when all charging is done at home.
SINCE WE HAVE FULL ROOFTOP SOLAR THAT COVERS OUR HOUSE AND LEAF CHARGING,
it is saving literally hundreds of dollars per month.
DEFINITELY SAVED ON FUELING EXPENSES.
I figured in my first full month of owning my LEAF, I saved about $250 on not having to fill my car with gas. I charge quite a bit in the community, most of it for free and do trickle charge top-offs when I come home. I also just cancelled emails from my local garage as I will not be needing the oil change coupons anymore . Now, I will be saving money by not needing oil changes and the headaches of dealing with oil change places.
WE WERE SPENDING ABOUT $200 PER MONTH ON GAS,
and I estimate we spend about $30 or so on electricity.
$250/MONTH IN GAS VS. $30/MONTH IN ELECTRICITY.
BETWEEN MY WIFE AND I, WE WERE BURNING $350/MONTH IN GAS.
Now she spends $40/month on gas & I spend about $30 on electricity.
ABSOLUTELY! I SAVED $180 A MONTH IN GAS.
But since I got my LEAF we are taking it on weekend trips instead of my wife's car to save even more! Good thing too because hers is a real gas guzzler.
ELECTRICITY INCREASED BY ABOUT $30/MONTH, WHILE GAS DROPPED BY ABOUT $120/MONTH.
ONE THING WE DIDN'T ANTICIPATE—THE REDUCTION IN GASOLINE BILLS FOR THE OTHER CAR.
Both of us love driving the LEAF and do it for all our in-town driving. So not only do we not pay for gas in the LEAF, we seldom have to purchase gas for the "long distance" car.
All electric cars are not

created equal. Some of them aren’t even electric.
Which is more than our car payment and insurance combined.
WE WERE SPENDING $600/MONTH IN GAS.
Now we spend about $50/month and have eVgo account that is $40/month. So, we are saving $510/month. We are now carpooling together, which we weren't before.
WE'RE SAVING AS MUCH AS $235/MONTH
Our lease payment is less than that so we're saving money by leasing a new car.
I SAVE BETWEEN $180 - $250 PER MONTH.
On my commute alone I'm saving $150/month.
I NOW SPEND ABOUT $50-60 PER MONTH TO FUEL TWO CARS!
The ICE car used to drive kids every AM but our gas mileage has improved since we started driving the LEAF. Oh- and I charge daily at work...for free.
DRIVING 1,000 MILES A MONTH HAS INCREASED MY ELECTRIC BILL BY $20.
When I used to commute in my truck, the fuel bill was easily $180 for the same distance.
Although during the summer months, with solar panels on my roof, I don't notice any change in my utility bills.
WHEN WE HAD 2 ICES WE SPENT AT $250/MONTH IN GAS.
Now, with our LEAF as the primary car, it costs us about $10 to $12/month to charge it and less than $40/month for the gas car.
