Its rugged capability didn’t go anywhere, but the Pathfinder Hybrid will. To see a few of the innovations and some of the thinking that went into the next-gen SUV, check out this short clip.
What kind of transmission do you put in the Next Gen SUV? The class-exclusive, next-generation Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), obviously. [*] Pathfinder’s new CVT eliminates gears by using a precisely machined metal drive chain instead of traditional fixed metal gears, which transfers power from the engine to the wheels far more effectively and smoothly. So whatever you ask from the engine, the CVT provides it by shifting seamlessly to give you the perfect speed, all while improving fuel economy.
You've got seven on board, and a big, beautiful trailer on the hitch. This is the moment you find out what your SUV is really made of. The 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid takes it on, getting 250 system HP, and letting you bring along 3,500 lbs of fun. [*]
Intelligent Dual Clutch System
The hybrid system uses an Intelligent Dual Clutch System that efficiently manages power from both the electric motor and the gas engine. To conserve fuel, the electric motor powers the Pathfinder at start-up and while coasting. When you are accelerating, passing, or towing the boat, the gas engine kicks in, working in tandem with the electric motor to power the vehicle.
This 2.5 liter 4-cylinder gas engine is supercharged, so as it breathes in fresh air to feed the engine, it cranks out nearly the same amount of power as the standard Pathfinder. To save fuel, it only kicks in when it needs to, and shuts down to conserve fuel when you are coasting or stopped.
Compact Lithium-Ion Battery
The Pathfinder Hybrid’s electric motor is powered by a series of lithium-ion cells housed in a space-saving battery pack. Thanks to this compact design, the battery pack fits right under the floor, so Pathfinder’s seven-seat interior doesn’t lose a single inch of space.
The regenerative braking system captures energy that would otherwise be lost during braking, and uses it to recharge the lithium-ion batteries. That stored energy is then re-used during acceleration. The Pathfinder Hybrid’s battery pack is also being continuously charged by energy recovered from the decelerating CVT and, when necessary, the gas engine.
NOTHING BUT THE BEST
The Pathfinder Hybrid seats seven passengers, and everybody travels in style. Best-in-Class front headroom and legroom, [*] as well as class-exclusive reclining third-row seats, [*] are all standard. Rich leather-appointed seats (front- and second-rows), a wood-tone trim, and a Tri-Zone entertainment system with three screens are all available options for the ultimate in sophisticated adventure. [*]
EZ Flex™ Seating System featuring Latch and Glide® technology
The spacious 2nd-row moves forward and backward up to 5½ inches for excellent access to the 3rd-row. [*] Speaking of the 3rd-row, Pathfinder Hybrid offers reclining seats back there, and they’re big enough to comfortably seat two full-sized adults.
Pathfinder Hybrid still has room for up to 16 cubic feet of cargo. Drop the 3rd-row and you’ve got more than 47 cubic feet, or drop both the 2nd- and 3rd-rows and you’ve got a virtually flat space with 79.8 cubic feet of cargo for your seriously big loads. There’s also a large under-floor storage area that keeps valuables out of sight. It’s easily accessed whether the 3rd-row is folded or upright, giving added cargo room even when you have seven passengers along for the ride. [*]

OF THE SITUATION.
Around View® Monitor [*]
Using four cameras, the available class-exclusive Around View® Monitor (AVM) creates a composite image of the 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid from above and displays it on the touch-screen monitor. [*] This helps visually show the vehicle’s position relative to the lines around parking spaces and adjacent objects, allowing the driver to maneuver into parking spots with more ease.
Advanced Drive-Assist™ Display
Keep your focus on what matters most—driving. Advanced Drive-Assist® Display is a 4.2-inch color monitor sitting right in front of you in the gauge cluster. The customizable, easy-to-read screen displays real-time outputs of the gas engine and the electric motor, and how much power is being regenerated, fuel economy, tire pressure, external temperature, and much more.
Nissan Intelligent Key®
The available Nissan Intelligent Key® lets you tap a button on the door handle or hatch to unlock them, while your keys stay in your pocket.
Heated Steering Wheel
Old Man Winter never saw this one coming. Keep those mitts toasty even on the coldest days with an available class-exclusive heated steering wheel that warms up at the touch of a button. [*]
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
When your tire pressure is low, an icon on your dash notifies you, and the Advanced Drive-Assist® will tell you which specific tire is low. [*]
Easy-Fill Tire Alert
When filling your tires, Easy-Fill Tire Alert gives you a friendly beep of the horn when you’re at the right pressure. [*]
