Enjoy your drive

With Android Auto open, use the app launcher to open Google Maps and search for your destination. You can also talk to Google Assistant to find addresses and get turn-by-turn directions.

To make calls, use the Phone app to dial numbers or search your contacts or use your voice with Google Assistant for hands-free calling. When a call is received, a notification will appear at the top of your screen. Select it to start the call.

To send text messages, ask Google Assistant to send a text and say your message aloud when prompted. Incoming texts will appear as notifications on your screen. Just tap one to have Google Assistant read it out loud so you can stay informed.

With Android Auto, you can enjoy your favorite songs, podcasts, books and more. Use your voice to easily search by artist, find something to match your mood, or resume your podcast or book from where you left off. You can also skip songs or fast forward and adjust the volume.

Android Auto will automatically show you useful information through in-vehicle alerts, such as suggested destinations, upcoming appointments, and weather conditions. Organized into simple cards, they appear just when they are needed.

Setting up Android Auto is easy. For first time setup, make sure your vehicle is in park mode, then follow these simple steps.

Android Auto (wired)

With a wired connection, your Android device is physically connected to your vehicle using a USB cable, ensuring a stable and seamless experience.

Wired setup instructions

To set up Android Auto:
- Confirm that your Nissan vehicle supports Android Auto
- Connect your device via USB to your compatible Nissan vehicle
- Follow the on-screen prompts on your car's display to set up Android Auto

Wireless Android Auto

With a wireless connection, you can connect your compatible Android device to your vehicle via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, allowing for a clutter-free setup.

Wireless setup instructions

To set up wireless Android Auto:
- Confirm that your Nissan vehicle supports Android Auto
- Connect your device to your vehicle's Bluetooth system and allow the use of Wi-Fi
- Follow the on-screen prompts on your car's display to set up wireless Android Auto

Good to know: While Wireless Android Auto is in use, some other wireless features may be unavailable. In order to continue using Android Auto, while utilizing other wireless features of your vehicle, please connect your Android device to the provided USB port located in your center console.

To view which vehicles are equipped with Android Auto or wireless Android Auto, please visit Package Availability. As new Nissan vehicles are equipped with Android Auto, Nissan will announce the availability. Each Nissan model must be designed specifically for Android Auto.

How do you set up Android Auto for the first time?

Once you've ensured that you meet all the compatibility requirements, turn on your vehicle and connect your phone using a USB cable. Follow the instructions that appear on your phone and your vehicle's touch screen - you may also need to touch the Android Auto icon on your vehicle's screen if it didn't switch over automatically. Once you've accepted the terms and safety message, you'll be ready to use Android Auto.

What is the cost of adding Android Auto to a Nissan vehicle?

There is no cost to connect Android Auto to your Nissan vehicle. However, keep in mind that to use wireless Android Auto, you will need a data/Wi-Fi connection, which may incur charges.

What can you do with Android Auto app on your phone?

If you open Android Auto on your phone while connected, you'll see a limited amount of features on the home screen, including navigation suggestions, reminders, messages, and more. You can also use your microphone in the app.

What can you find on the Home screen in Android Auto?

When you open Android Auto on your vehicle's screen, you'll be taken to the app launcher, which lays out your most frequently used compatible apps in the top row. Use the app launcher to locate and open apps you want to use while driving.

Can you use Google Assistant with Android Auto?

Talk to Google Assistant on Android Auto and get things done with your voice so you can keep your focus on driving. Easily send messages, get directions, control media and more. Just say, “Hey Google” or, in compatible Nissan models, long press the TALK button on your steering wheel to get started.

Can I use the on-screen keyboard?

No, you can’t use the keyboard while driving. You can use the keyboard when the car is parked.

Why does the voice button take me out of Android Auto?

When using your vehicle's voice command button for Android Auto, make sure that you hold it down until you hear the system beep. A short press will generally take you out of Android Auto and back into your vehicle's native voice recognition system.

I connected the phone and nothing happened. What now?

If this is the first time you're using Android Auto in your vehicle, be sure to unlock your phone and accept the terms and conditions on your phone's screen after you've connected and touched the Android Auto button on your display.

You should also do the following:
- Make sure that the "Only connect to known cars" setting in the Android Auto app is unchecked.
- Make sure to use the USB cable provided with your phone at purchase, or another compatible USB cable.
- Locate the Android Auto icon/button on your car's infotainment system to open Android Auto.

What is the difference between Google Assistant on Android Auto and Google Assistant on vehicles with Google built-in?

Both Google Assistant on Android Auto and Google built-in offer voice-controlled assistance while driving, but they work differently. Google Assistant on Android Auto requires a connected Android phone (either by Bluetooth or USB) and mirrors your phone's interface on the infotainment screen, providing access to your phone's apps and Google Assistant through your phone. Google built-in, on the other hand, is natively integrated into your vehicle's entertainment system and no phone connection is required. It offers direct access to Google apps and services, including Google Assistant, without relying on your phone.
