Nissan LEAF Q&A
WHAT IS THE ACTUAL COST OF OWNERSHIP?
ASIDE FROM MY LEASE PAYMENT NOTHING SO FAR.
I have had my LEAF for a year and have had no other costs for maintenance. I know that my electric bill probably has gone up, but I don't even notice it so it must not be by much.
I DRIVE ABOUT 1,200 MILES A MONTH AND DO MOST OF MY CHARGING AT HOME,
where I estimate I pay about $15 a month for the car's electrical costs. But one other thing to keep in mind is that you'll never pay for another oil change, because your LEAF's electric engine never needs one. And there's very little maintenance needed on an electric engine. For my first warranty-covered trip back to the dealer at 6,000 miles all that needs to be done is rotate the tires.
BY FAR LESS THAN A GAS CAR.
We pay $236 total a month. Before, we paid $180 for JUST gas. We also had repairs left and right which we don’t have with the LEAF. There aren't oil changes either. And no emissions test! I love getting the tag in the mail without doing a thing. It all adds up!
OUR GASOLINE BILL WAS BETWEEN $150 AND $200 DOLLARS A MONTH,
and gasoline is quite expensive here. Now that bill is $0. This is my free car because the monthly payment for leasing this car is about the same as what I was paying for gasoline.
LEASE COST, PLUS EXPECTED MILEAGE OVERAGE, MINUS GAS EXPENSES, MY CAR COSTS ME ABOUT $150 A MONTH.
For $150 a month, I have a car that competes with the Lexus IS250 interior and comfort-wise. Making it simple, I spent $225-250 a month on gas alone before. Although, I do miss the aged, dry hot-dog jerky stuff on the rollers and burnt coffee in the convenience store at the gas station.
