Wouldn’t it be cool if every time you went for a drive, confidence came along for the ride? Nissan Intelligent Safety Shield® Technologies[] comprises a comprehensive approach to safety that guides the engineering and development of every vehicle we make. It’s our way of looking out for you and yours by monitoring, responding and protecting to help keep you and your passengers safe.
Nissan's commitment to innovation and intelligent safety will shine in 2018 when six models - roughly 1,000,000 Nissans in total - will include standard Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)[].
Previously known as Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) this intelligent feature uses radar technology to monitor a vehicle's proximity to the vehicle ahead, giving the driver audible and visual display warnings to help the driver reduce the vehicle's speed if a potential frontal collision is detected. If the driver fails to respond, the AEB system can apply the brakes, helping the driver to avoid the collision or reduce the speed of impact if it is unavoidable.
A number of current Nissan models are equipped with standard Automatic Emergency Braking including the: 2019 Altima, 2018 LEAF, 2018.5 Rogue Sport, 2018 Rogue, 2018 Murano and 2018 Pathfinder.
Smart technologies [] are designed to help monitor conditions, from a system that helps ensure you’re traveling on properly inflated tires, to a system that monitors your driving, and alerts you that you may need a break.
INTELLIGENT FORWARD COLLISION WARNING[]
In traffic, it only takes a moment to get caught off guard in a potentially dangerous situation. How about a little help? With this technology, a radar sensor on the front of your Nissan constantly monitors not just one vehicle ahead in your lane, but two. When the system detects sudden deceleration two vehicles ahead, it gives you an audible warning and a visual signal on the instrument panel. So you get a heads up, even if you can’t see what’s slowing you down.
AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING (AEB) AND AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING WITH PEDESTRIAN DETECTION []
Automatic Emergency Braking (previously known as Forward Emergency Braking) can provide audible and visual alerts and apply braking to help you avoid or mitigate a frontal collision with a vehicle ahead. When equipped with the additional Pedestrian Detection functionality, it can help to avoid or mitigate a collision if it detects a pedestrian in front of your vehicle.
Blind Spot Warning (BSW)[]
If another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area, an indicator appears in the driver’s or front passenger’s door pillar and on the Advanced Drive-Assist® Display. Put your turn signal on, and the indicator flashes with a warning chime to alert you.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)[]
When you’re backing out of a parking space, this feature can warn you about detected vehicles you might not see behind you approaching from either side. So backing up feels more confident than ever.
Intelligent Rear view Mirror (I-RM) []
Full house in back? See right past their friendly faces. This feature turns your rear view mirror into a camera screen, giving you a vivid, wide angle view, day or night.
INTELLIGENT Around View® Monitor (AVM)[]
The Intelligent Around View® Monitor uses four cameras to give you a virtual composite 360º bird's-eye view of your vehicle, with selectable split-screen close-ups of the front, rear, and curbside views. And since all obstacles aren't stationary, the Moving Object Detection system can warn you about moving objects detected in your vicinity.
Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC)[]
Unlike traditional systems that only maintain a set speed, Intelligent Cruise Control also helps keep an adjustable set distance between you and the car in front. As traffic slows down or speeds up, ICC responds accordingly.
INTELLIGENT DRIVER ALERTNESS (IDA) []
An American Automobile Association study estimates that an average of 328,000 automobile accidents can be attributed to fatigued driving every year on American roads.[] That’s why we developed Intelligent Driver Alertness, or IDA. This forward-thinking technology works by monitoring your steering patterns. Should the system detect any unusual steering activity, it will alert you audibly with a chime, and visually by lighting a coffee cup icon on your display, letting you know it may be time for a break.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)[]
TPMS monitors tires for low inflation pressure, which can shorten tire life and reduce the load-carrying capabilities of the vehicle. Using an icon on the dash, the system lets you know when tire pressure is low. As you fill your tires, the Easy-Fill Tire Alert flashes the car’s lights and sounds a friendly beep of the horn when they have enough air.
Standard on all Nissan models.
INTELLIGENT BACK-UP INTERVENTION []
When reversing Intelligent Back-Up Intervention helps to detect crossing and approaching vehicles and large object behind you and lets you know with visual and audio alerts. It can even go further and automatically engage the brakes to help avoid a collision.
Feature availability varies - not all features available on all Nissan models.
Whether you need to hit the brakes hard or maneuver around an unexpected obstacle, these standard technologies help you respond to a potentially harmful situation.
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)[]
helps you maintain your steered path.
Traction Control System (TCS)
helps reduce wheelspin in low-traction situations.
Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
helps you maintain steering control around obstacles while braking heavily.
Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)
sends extra force to the rear brakes when you have additional weight of passengers or cargo in the back.
Brake Assist (BA)[]
helps apply maximum braking force if it detects hard braking and senses you are in an emergency situation.
Standard on all Nissan models.
INTELLIGENT AUTO HEADLIGHTS
Intelligent Auto Headlights read and react to light conditions outside, automatically turning your lights on and off when needed. To help you out in poor conditions, they also react automatically to the windshield wipers, turning on after four swipes.
When a collision is unavoidable, Nissan’s Zone Body construction helps absorb the impact while the advanced seat belt and air bag systems help protect passengers.
Nissan Advanced Air Bag System[]
This system includes dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and an occupant-classification sensor. The inflation rate of these dual-stage air bags adjusts depending on crash severity and seat belt usage.
Front Seat-Mounted Side-Impact Supplemental Air Bag[]
These air bags are built into the front seats backs, so they move with the occupants.
Roof-Mounted Curtain Supplemental Air Bag[]
Roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags with rollover sensor for front and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection.
LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children)
LATCH is another way we’re working to keep children safe. The system lets you secure LATCH-compatible child restraints without having to use seat belts or a locking clip.
Nissan safety engineers have dedicated thousands of hours to evaluating hundreds of child restraints in Nissans. The result: An industry first, The Snug Kids® Child Safety Seat Fit Guide. This guide lists child seats that fit the rear seats of Nissan vehicles, as well as offers invaluable tips on correct installation. Look for the latest Fit Guide at NissanUSA.com/SnugKids.
