The Formula E series is the world's first international single-seater championship powered by electric power. Formula E has established itself as a global entertainment brand, attracting some of the best racing drivers and teams in the world since its debut in 2014. Nissan made its all-electric racing debut in Season 5 (2018/2019) of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, becoming the first and only Japanese manufacturer to enter the series. The series promotes clean, sustainable mobility and electric vehicles in its push toward a better, cleaner future. As a leader in the manufacturing of electric vehicles racing for the future, Nissan has partnered with e.dams, one of the most successful Formula E race teams. In April 2022, Nissan announced the acquisition of the e.dams race team, taking taking full ownership of its involvement in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
Season 9 (2022/23) marks Nissan's fifth season in Formula E and the start of the Gen3 era. These new cars will have 350 kilowatts (40% more power than Gen2) and a top speed of 320 km/h, enabling faster, more agile electric racing.
Nissan is a world-leading expert in the design and manufacturing of exciting all-electric vehicles. With more than 500,000 Nissan LEAF vehicles sold globally since the model debuted in 2010, Nissan made use of its existing EV experience to develop its Formula E race car.
