Promoting responsible outdoor recreation

Nissan is proud to support the nonprofit organization Tread Lightly! who aims to help keep America’s outdoor recreation areas healthy, beautiful, and accessible. This collaboration is one of many actionable steps Nissan is taking to protect sensitive environments and wildlife from damage. In addition to practicing responsible outdoor recreational vehicle activities, Nissan will also work closely with Tread Lightly! on future conservation projects in an effort to promote and support Tread Lightly!'s mission of keeping America’s public lands beautiful, healthy and open.

What is Tread Lightly!?

Tread Lightly!, based in North Salt Lake, UT, is a conservation nonprofit that works nationally to protect and enhance recreation access and opportunities by promoting outdoor guidelines and responsibility. Tread Lightly!’s goal is to balance the needs of the people who enjoy outdoor recreation with the need to maintain healthy ecosystems and thriving populations of fish and wildlife. From land to water, and representative of nearly every form of outdoor recreation Tread Lightly! offers programs, trainings, and educational material to help educate recreationists across the nation on their mission.

Tips for Responsible 4x4 & Off-Roading

When using 4x4 vehicles please stay on designated roads and trails to protect wildlife and sensitive environments from damage. Travel only in areas open to four-wheel drive vehicles. Using the T.R.E.A.D Principle can help ensure you are minimizing your environmental impact.

Travel responsibly on designated roads, trails or areas.
Respect the rights of others, including private property owners, all recreational trail users, campers and others so they can enjoy their recreational activities undisturbed.
Educate yourself prior to your trip by obtaining travel maps and regulations from public agencies, planning for your trip, taking recreation skills classes and knowing how to operate your equipment safely.
Avoid sensitive areas such as meadows, lake shores, wetlands and streams. Stay on designated routes.
Do your part by modeling appropriate behavior, leaving the area better than you found it, properly disposing of waste, minimizing the use of fire, avoiding the spread of invasive species and restoring degraded areas.
