KEY FEATURES

An Icon of Style, Capability, and Performance

The Nissan Xterra was – and remains - a favorite for drivers looking for off-road capability and everyday usability. Backed by proven Nissan reliability, an impressive engine and transmission, respectable fuel economy (when new) ranging up to 22 MPG highway depending on model year and trim level, and genuine towing capacity, the Xterra delivered. Rugged styling, highlighted by its iconic aluminum roof rack, ensured that no matter where the road went, Xterra was ready to make an impression.[[6080]]

22 Highway / 16 City MPG*

When new, 2015 Nissan Xterra X and S delivered up to 16 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway.  But Xterra really outshone the competition in its versatility, and especially it’s off-road capability. Both remain legendary to this day.[[6080]]

5,000 lb. Max Towing

Whether on or off-road, when the adventure called for the big toys, Xterra delivered with a maximum towing capacity of up to 5,000 lbs. for all trims. Trailers, boats, extra gear — if you could hitch it up, chances are Xterra could haul it.[[114]]

261 HP and 281 lb-ft of Torque

The power behind Xterra’s prowess was its 4.0L V6 engine —standard in 2015, its final production year. This powerplant delivered 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque across all trims for impressive performance, from the freeway to the back forty.

Blue Nissan Xterra SUV with available Hill Start Assist

Hill Start Assist

Xterra was available with Hill Start Assist to help prevent rolling backward when starting from a stop on an incline. This system applies the brakes for a few moments, allowing enough time to switch from the brake pedal to the accelerator and keep the adventure moving forward.[[417]]

Hill Descent Control

Hill Descent Control makes going down steep grades more manageable. The system works by automatically adjusting speed and brake pressure to help keep you going at a controlled speed down steep declines, freeing you up to concentrate on navigating challenging off-road situations. On Xterra, it worked exactly the same way.[[417]]

Electronic Locking Rear Differential

When 4WD wasn’t enough, with a flip of the switch you could activate Xterra PRO 4X’s available electronic locking rear differential. The ultimate off-road feature, it delivered equal power to both rear wheels to boost traction and help keep you moving forward, even when the trail didn’t want to let you. It works the same way to this day.
