Nissan LEAF helps makes everything feel more exciting. From 40% more range than the previous generation, to a boost in power that quickly gets you moving, to an easy way to charge, you’ll always look forward to the next exhilarating drive. [][]
HOW CAN YOU EXTEND YOUR RANGE?
GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR CHARGE
Choose ECO Mode to limit the motor’s output and conserve energy. It also slightly increases regenerative braking, all of which helps you achieve the best possible range. []
B Mode: Recover Braking Energy
Really serious about maxing out your range? You can also activate B Mode. This delivers more aggressive regenerative braking, which charges the battery.
Charging the 2019 Nissan LEAF is as simple as fueling up any gasoline car, whether you’re at home or on the go [].
No matter which of the 3 charger options you are using, the steps to connect and charge a LEAF are similar.
CHARGING A NISSAN LEAF
Place the vehicle in park and place the power switch in the OFF position.
Open the charge port lid and charge port cap.
Connect the charge connector to the charge port. If it is connected normally, a beep will sound once.
When the LEAF reaches full charge, it will stop the charging on its own. To end charging before it is fully charged, remove the charge connector following the charger instructions.
The 2019 LEAF can charge at Level 2 chargers and quick charging stations (if so equipped) and in a pinch, a trickle charge via a regular outlet.
NISSAN LEAF CHARGING OPTIONS
The Nissan LEAF offers its owners three types of charging – Level 2 charging that is the normal, typical type of charger most owners install at home, quick chargers found at public charging stations [] and the trickle charge that allows for in-a-pinch charging using a regular wall outlet.
Most LEAF owners do their day-to-day charging at home using the LEAF vehicle’s Level 2 charging cord or wall unit. You can charge at home using the available charging dock that is plugged into a 240V outlet – the same as a clothes dryer — or a dedicated, professionally-installed MODE3 wall unit charger.
LEAF models equipped with the available Quick Charge port give drivers the fastest charging times and in just 40 minutes can charge a LEAF battery up to 80 percent capacity.[]
OPTION 3: NISSAN LEAF TRICKLE CHARGE []
The Nissan LEAF vehicle’s included L2-EVSE charging cord with 120V adapter allows drivers to temporarily plug into a standard 120V outlet for a quick recharge, meaning if you’ve got access to electricity, you are never without the ability to charge.
NISSAN LEAF CHARGING AND CHARGER REQUIREMENTS
It is recommended that LEAF owners choose one of the two Level 2 charging options of a professionally installed AC 22-240 volt charging unit or using the L2-EVSe charging cable and a 220-240V 50 amp dedicated outlet installed by a qualified electrician. To take advantage of the CHAdeMO Quick Charging points that are found at public charging stations [], your LEAF model must be equipped with the available Quick Change port. All 2019 LEAF vehicles are compatible with the L2-EVSE charging cord with 120V adapter that plugs right into a standard outlet.
