How do electric cars work?

Nissan EVs use electricity stored in rechargeable high-voltage batteries to power an electric motor. That motor converts the electric energy into mechanical power that moves the wheels and allows the vehicle to operate.

How long will it take to recharge?

The time it takes to recharge an EV depends on several factors. These include: the charging system used, battery capacity, maximum vehicle charge rate, and environmental factors.[[1674]]

Charging system

Charging systems are generally divided into two types: Level 3 and Level 2. Depending on the system you use and the size of the battery in your EV, charging times will vary.

For example, using a Level 3 charger, ARIYA trims with a 63 kWh battery can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 35 minutes, while models with 87 kWh batteries can charge to 80% in as little as 40 minutes. [[3982]]

Using a Level 2 charger, ARIYA trims with a 63 kWh battery can go from 0% to 100% charge in 10.5 hours, while models with an 87 kWh battery can charge in 14 hours. [[1674]] [[3959]]

Battery capacity

A battery's capacity depends on its size. Nissan ARIYA is available with a 63 kWh or 87 kWh battery. Nissan LEAF is available with either a 40 kWh or 80 kWh battery.

Environmental factors

Electric cars can operate even in challenging weather conditions, whether hot or cold. Like any car however, climate extremes will adversely affect how an EV performs. A car’s mechanical systems – whether gas powered or electric can only be pushed so far. The same is true for an EV’s battery pack whose capacity can be adversely affected by excessive heat or cold.

How long will it take to recharge my 2025 Nissan LEAF?

Charge time varies depending on battery size, charger type, and other factors. Level 2 - 240V Charging

Level 2 home charging uses a dedicated 240-volt outlet in your garage or carport. Level 2 charging is available at many public locations as well. Much faster than Level 1 charging, Level 2 chargers provide 10 to 25 miles of range for each hour of charging. [[3]]

Level 1 - 120V Standard Outlet

Level 1 home charging requires no special equipment, just a standard 120-volt home outlet. It offers the slowest charging cycle compared to dedicated charging equipment adding about 2-5 miles of range for each hour of charging — great for a top-up instead of a fast, full recharge.

Nissan ARIYA drivers with a Nissan-Compliant NACS Adapter Kit [[3968]] have access to compatible Tesla Supercharger locations through the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network.[[3955]] To locate a compatible Tesla Supercharger you can search on the map screen in the MyNISSAN App. [[1189]] The “Provider” filter will allow you to select Tesla Supercharger specifically. Once selected, it will automatically filter to compatible stations. ARIYA drivers must activate the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network* [[3955]] to pay for their Supercharging sessions right through the MyNISSAN App.

All AC “Level 2” Tesla Destination chargers, Wall Connectors and Mobile Connectors are incompatible with Nissan ARIYA at this time.

How do I find EV Charging stations?

What is the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network?

How can I remotely stop charging an EV?

You can remotely start or stop your charging from your phone with the MyNISSAN app for the Nissan ARIYA, or the NissanConnect EV & Services app for the Nissan LEAF. You can also create a schedule for charging your Nissan EV on specific days and times. [[1189]]

Are there additional idle charging fees?
